I haven't posted recently, so I thought I'd share a couple of snapshots of planning out a sim landscape. Here you can see the original landscape of Nowhere and below it the updated version. The images were created using Backhoe and Screenshot Plus on a MacBook Pro and then using Photoshop to crop and save as TGA files to upload into Second Life.

Hi Emma... I have found your notes on how to plan a sim in SL interesting. I wish you'd explain more on the criteria and the process you used to develop your project. Time permitting, I encourage you to explain more. Regards, Indigo Mertel
Hi Indigo,
I'll write some more detail on the next sim I work on. There are a lot of aesthetic considerations that can drive the design of an island. In my case, for Nowhere and it's upcoming sister islands, I wanted a natural feel and studied a number of photographs of different real world islands.
One aspect that I'm going to have to explore in detail is the economics of residential sims on the old and new pricing plans, since Nowhere was purchased before the new sim pricing went into effect and the next residential sim I bring online will be on the new pricing. This will undoubtedly influence how much area can be dedicated to non-rentable landscape features such as mountains and bays.
